LSOF: Watching and Waiting….Living everyday as a ” CHRISTIAN”.
I have to tell you something that you’ll find is very true.
There are always people around, waiting to see if we will mess up, (most want to believe that we are going to), and most likely we will.
Ephesians 2:8-9- ” It’s because of grace you have been saved, not by works, so not anyone can boast.”
We are aware that we have been saved by grace, that our sins are forgiven, but those who don’t believe in Jesus don’t know this about us, and try to have us compromise with their own ways a living, so they can justify their sins. But do not be swayed by this.
1 Corinthians 15:33 ~ Do not be misled: “Bad( in hebrew this word means ” cowardly) company corrupts good character.”
Beth Moore preached on this in her recent message, ” Hearts set on Pilgrimage.” Basically, we need to make sure the ones that have the greatest influence on us, our healthy to us on a spiritual level.
1 John 1:4-7 “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 5They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit[a] of truth and the spirit of falsehood.”
I was up until 6am recently on Sunday morning, trying to get this devotional on paper, and as I was reading in 1 John 1:4-7, I can honestly tell you, I bawled my eyes out. Why, because I was reminded how BIG God is, compared to this world, and it was so relieving, even if I already knew it, seeing it in bold on paper, that has lasted for so many years, it just felt like the rock that we believe is carried on our backs daily , it really does not exist, it is our thoughts, bearing down on our body, we LET it get so inflamed with the negative, with things that God wouldn’t want us wasting our time thinking or worrying about.
When you do mess up, and are judged by those unbelieving, don’t fall to your knees in agony over it. YOU HAVE BEEN SAVED, YOU KNOW THE TRUTH ALREADY. Just remind yourself of this, save yourself the heartache.
1 John 2:21-I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth. “
God knew you were going to sin, and the world may try to put you to shame, it natural, but as it says in scripture, ” Greater is the one who is in you.” and if you have to write that verse on your hand, or a post it on a sticky note do so you will be reminded everyday, GOD LOVES YOU. HE FORGIVES YOU.
Again I will say it, God loves you, and He forgives you, He just wants you to be aware that the attention is on you, and apart of your calling, the same for everyone, love people the way God wanted you to.
Showing love means teaching others through everday speech and action the right ways of living, according to the Spirit. Those who are ” watching” they aren’t all waiting to see if we will mess up, in a way they are, but more so, these our the ones that want something more for their life, ones where there is such a void that they are looking for some quick fix.
We have to be aware of people like this, know that there are so many we encounter everyday and not even realize it.
I think of the cars on the highway. How many people are stopped in a traffic jam? Plenty. How many are Christian? We don’t know. How many our watching us? Everyone.
Just because someone pulls out in front of you, says some obscene language and keeps going, it doesn’t give us right to get even and do the same. Maybe there could be someone next to your car, that watched the entire thing, and might be going through something terrible in their life, instead of getting even, maybe just maybe, because you kept your cool, that person might see that, and say, ” You know what that person can handle their rough times, maybe I can too.”
The thing is, you won’t be able to tell them yourself you are a Christian, but you may have helped save their life.
Being a genuine Christian, we have to understand that age doesn’t matter to God, that we are all on different levels of our faith, just because of the knowledge we attain, spending time in the word and what not, but also the heart we have, how many we reached out too.
I spend a lot of time with kids subbing, and obviously you can’t show your faith at a public school, so I go in there everyday, and I say to myself,
” These kids are going to see you in me today God, and some probably really need you, help me to be your example completely today and everyday. “
I got a lot of comments on how well I control my classes, and how nice I was to them. It wasn’t just because I was a good teacher, it was because God was shown through me, and the kids saw that light. I know it.
I also try to teach my kids the importance of being kind to others, and not showing judgement. I subbed a middle school class, where a girl was reading about Cassie Bernall the girl that died for being a believer at Columbine.
Without being religous about it, we discussed it and the feelings they all had about it as a class, and I shared a little about Rachel Scott, from what I have read and know because of a friend of hers. And really my own life experience.
My big thing though in all my classes I teach, I have two rules, one is ” unecessary comments” if it doesn’t build someone up, or have to do with subject matter, it doesn’t need to be said, and the other is life being about choices, you can choose to be good, or choose to do your own thing, but not doing what is right has its consequences. In those two rules, God does exist, without ever having to say scripture.
Adult are just like Children
1 Timothy 4:12-Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. “
I have worked many jobs since I was 17 yrs old. And in every job I have had, I can honestly say I was ” on top” that I was respected by my employers. They saw me as hardworking, and dedicated, but I know one thing they will always remember about me, doesn’t have to do with the job description itself.
I have been told that I am nice to others, and show I care. I have been raised by God in knowing that people just need something good in their day. I have had many times where I have been able to just encourage others, not just those I work with, but the customers as well.
For those I work with, for one they know I am human, most know I am a Christian, more than just because I wear a cross on my neck, and not because I have really shared it. They know of my faith, because I have never brushed anyone to the side, I accept everyone as they are. Most of the time, it is a shock to them. I just remind them, I have been where they are, and am always there if they need me.
The customers, they don’t expect someone to talk more than just about the product we are selling, but even after, still being right there to listen. I had a lady once, after I got done ringing her up, she was telling me how she was down for her friend who was dying of cancer.
She was telling me how she couldn’t believe that this person was living her life as if the disease was never apart of her body. I told her, ” Don’t ever let it be. Just let her live.” and instead of the lady continuing on about it, she told me that I was right, and that it would be better to see her friend happy, then sad, depressed, and in pain.
I decided this devotional was going to be one that I really, really put all my heart and soul into, because it is such a cry of my heart to know that their is all kids of lonliness and desperation in this world, and we need to be shed the light, and help people realize there is HOPE.
Phil 4: 8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirableif anything is excellent or praiseworthythink about such things. 9Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in meput it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”
So my friends, be careful out there, it is definitely a tough world, and a rough road ahead, but I know that we all have the power and strength of Jesus, that we can help heal this world.
1 Thessalonians 1:3-” We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.”
