LSOF: The Aftershocks

LSOF: Aftershocks

My Dear friends, I started writing this devotional yesterday at my favorite coffee shop.
I mention that, because after a long couple days it was worth it to just be able to sit down and drink a nice and hot mocha latte'(nonfat, no foam).

I started to think about how things hit us in our lives. The things that seem to knock us off the foundation of where we stood as we thought forever strong and invincible; which by the way we are not.

The situation with the health of my Pastor, or my mom finding out her biopsy results, just the whole ” waiting” to see what the outcome would be, it took up a lot of energy. And something that finally helped a lot was God just speaking to my heart, ” Just trust me, and there is no need to sit there wondering.”

God’s plans for us our always for good. No matter how we see it at the time.

A lot of it is, God wants to see how we handle that ” big” thing in our life. Whether it be an illeness of someone you care for, a loss of job, or status, or a death.

Where do we go after it happens?

This is a verse of scripture that kept coming to my mind as I write this:

James 1:2-6

Trials and Temptations

2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. 5If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. 6But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

The word ” Perseverance” would translate in the greek to mean- persistence.

So basically, we have to let the persistent issues in our lives the new and the old get at us, because it happened to us with the permission of God, in order that we become stronger.

In a regular earthquake depending on the size, it can create many aftershocks felt close to are far away from the epicenter.

From that earthquake other disasters can occur, like the tsunamis.

The truth of the matter is we don’t know when the next spiritual earthquake will come, but we do know that there is a purpose, and that we are not left alone through it.

Just let it pass by, without fearing it. God’s promise is strong that He will help us build again, no matter what part of our lives are shaken.

With God, we will never be truly shaken. He would never allow it.

  1. Waiting…oh don’t you just hate it. I am studying about waiting in my bible study right now. One thing I learned is that when God brings waiting periods into your life, it is for only one reason: so that you can test-drive your faith. You can study faith, you can memorize verses about faith, you can learn slick definitions about faith, but until you have the opportunity to test-drive your own faith, you will never know how it handles in your hands. (God already knows everything about you, He is proving your faith to you!) When it appears from earth that God is delaying, He is really putting pieces together that you had not thought of. He is engineering circumstances so that His power and glory will be on display. His apparent delays are loving, purposeful, and deliberate. That comes from the study, To Live A Praying Life by Jennifer Kennedy Dean.
