LSOF: Seeking God
This devotional will be a tender one to my heart, because the topic is the message my Pastor was supposed to give yesterday.
He is in the hospital; more than likely another spiritual attack.
And the enemy loves to try to stop us in our tracks, well, you know what, his little stunt of power is over, because God’s word will come through loud and clear no matter what.
Not knowing the outcome of what is happening now, I will share with you what I found in the word, with a simple outline given at church and God’s help alone.
I believe God is challenging us to take on account to our faith.
For me personally, God is asking the question; Can you stand alone?
If all of the leaders at church, or people of influence all over the world, suddenly were silenced, and I was the only one that could still speak, would I believe what I know enough to preach it?
I’m up for the challenge.
” How to find God”- A Word of clarification and caution
Matthew 12:43-45 ( NASB)43″(A)Now when the unclean
(One that is not in pure devotion to Christ)
spirit goes out of a man, it passes through waterless
( dry, and worn)
places seeking rest
( one where he can find control over easily),
and does not find
( no reason to control)
it.44″Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came
( A place that once had sin.)’;
and when it comes, it finds it unoccupied, swept, and put in order
( When we become naive that the same sin can’t happen to us again)
..45″Then it goes and takes along with it seven other spirits more wicked
( ones that have more power then just to manipulate, but seek to destroy, the ones that will take us down if we are not prepared, the ones that will leave scars on our backs.)
than itself, and they go
( fulfil satan’s plan for our life)
in and live
( unless we have somekind of support, unless we can be held accountable to our sin and know what we believe, then the Enemy will have such control over our lives, we won’t be able to stand, our lives become to unbalanced that we forget who we are, and that even God does indeed exist.)
there; and (B)the last state of that man
( the one that has very little faith, and very little hope to keep on.)
becomes worse than the first.
That is the way it will also be with this evil generation.
“I remember saying to my friend once awhile back during a really rough and spirit-searching time,
” How do I know God is even real?”and she stopped me,
” Angie, you did not just say that; That is the Enemy speaking to you, don’t listen.”
We all have our crisis of faith every now and then, but I wonder have we ever pictured the face of the Enemy smiling his evil little smile, and there we are fallen on the ground, crying our eyes out in complete defeat.
It never had to happen.
I can tell you something about my church that I don’t think was as evident as it is now; we have grown to really fear the Lord as a church body.
It is what it takes. Some of you may be reading this without a clue of what it means so I will explain further using the Strongs context:
fear: ” to stand in awe”, and from there, ” awe” means reverance.
When our life focus is on Jesus, there will be less sin;
I don’t mean there won’t be sin trying to be placed in our lives, because I think the enemy has his own promises that he will do anything to keep us far from Jesus.
What I mean is that idolism is a big issue, it is a hardest fight, because all sin is rooted in somekind of emptiness, some void that we have, the things in our lives that we have our focus on at the moment other than Jesus.
I loved what Beth Moore said on Life Today a couple months back about idolism.
” Every single piece of currency in your wallet; dollar, nickle, penny, quarter, dime all has a face on it: eyes that cannot see, nose that cannot smell, ears that cannot hear- that is the American Idol.” ( Psalm 115:4-6)
The evil generation I believe has a lot to do with riches.
We think if we have enough money, we will be happy.
Money can buy a lot of things. Fill in the blank yourself.
How to seek Him?
So in clarifying, finding God doesn’t necissarily mean going to the store and picking up the first Christian author you see;
you have to know who you are seeking to find, and why.
The world right now, it is filled with spiritualism, but that my friends, is NOT how to find God.
Leviticus 19:3131 ” ‘Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God.”
You really have to use caution on this subject; because even so-called Christian authors can deceive us.
I won’t name this author, but I wasn’t sure about reading it.
Listening to this person speak on TV seemed fine, but I was so unsure that I told Debbie to read a little of the book for me; and she confirmed that my feelings were right.
I threw that book away when I got home, of course my mom found it, but I have never opened it again since.
When the direction of power is pointed to within us, as if we can do something physically to bring more power to our lives.
( even if they say it can help with our prayers.) it is not biblically sound doctrine.
God does not say we need a prop to go to him. Don’t fall for it!
And no onelse can get us to heaven either!
Seeking God with a humble heart
In also finding God, we need to have humility;
pride is a forest where the enemy dwells in darkness.
We have to stop our pity parties; or building our walls around our hearts; and just be real with God. Be real with ourselves.
2 Corinthians 7:9-109″ I now rejoice
( be filled with joy at all times and with reverence), not that you were made sorrowful,
( to be made aware by regret of your sins, and learn from it.)
but that you were made sorrowful to the point of repentance;
( the place of rock botton, muck and mire, you know you can do nothing to save yourself)
for you were made sorrowful according to the will of God,
( all things happen by HIS plan alone, and our desires need to be balanced with HIS)so that you might not suffer loss in anything through us.
10For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a (A)repentance without regret,
( instead of living life full of despair from our sin, God shows us that we should always be reminded of where He took us from, but never carry that shame with us on our shoulders. Leave it at His feet.)
leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death
( No hope, No Peace, the trap of the enemy).”
Okay let’s review:
Clarification and Caution: Always Be AWAKE and AWARE.
1. Be awake and aware of lies from the mind
2. seek God with your heart and keep it guarded
3. Compromising morals and values will distance us from God
4. Pride will lead our lives if we continue to focus on where we have BEEN in stead of where we are NOW.
5. Practice reading the word, and understanding caution. Not everyone is FOR God and are misguided enough to lead God’s people down a dangerous path.
Use the Holy Spirit to discern in ALL things!
This will keep us far from sin if we focus on all we know and believe about God; we need to be in the word!
I had a lady at my study tonight say that she doesn’t understand how I can just read the word and get what is being said.
I will tell you the same thing i told her; break it down. Look at the words that pop out, and then use the Holy Spirit to show you what is being said.
God loves us and He wants to be near us. Sin keeps Him at a distance. Although, we are the ones that keep Him distant. He is always right there at our side, we just don’t alway choose to pay attention.
I’ll leave you will one last scripture, that I believe sums up everything that was said.
“11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
14 I will be found by you,” declares the LORD, “and will bring you back from captivity. [b] I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the LORD, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”
