LSOF: Putting up our shield

I first just have to let you guys know how tired I am…I was writing out shield, and had to say to myself, ” I before E except after C…”

Okay then.

I want to write a couple particular verses in the bible. But I also wanted to give you some visual images of what I pictured driving home this morning.

Do you remember Star Trek: The Next Generation? Well, my dad and I just loved it; and it was something special for us to watch together; its hard to find a special show for just for dad and I; I mean seriously, COPS, and WINGS, are just not my cup of tea.

If you have seen it, you might rememeber when the Captain was asked to come to the bridge(the front of the ship), and Jordie would tell him about the enemies that were about to attack; and they would prepare first, by putting up the forcefields (shield).

When they were attacked, if you can rememebr there wasn’t just one shield, but a couple different ones, all surrounding the ship. So when one went, another stronger one took over.

We have to understand that the shields we place are only flimsy ones, pretty much like piece of notebook paper. We have to let God be the one to take the hit. Not us. We will surely lose.

Believe me, I am learning this right with you.

Its so easy to tell ourselves, ” If I don’t let this thing bother me, it won’t.”
Yea, just picture the enemy standing around the corner taking notes.
He knows just right where to hurt us, because we give him the ammunition.

Psalm 33:16
No king is saved by the size of his army;
no warrior escapes by his great strength.

So what I pictured today, was standing with a shield surrounding me entirely.
My shield being Jesus.

The more we ” grow” meaning the more experiences we have as a Christian, whether they are good or not so good in our eyes.
the more stronger our shields become.

Eph 6:16

In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith,
with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

I have taken most of the Believing God study, and I don’t know if you have, but it is phenomenal; I’ll go on after I write this out:

” The Shield of Faith”
1. God can do what He says He can do
2. God is who He says He is
3. I AM who God says I Am
4. I can do ALL things through CHRIST
5. God’s word is ALIVE and ACTIVE in me…

I am believing God!”

I didn’t plan on posting that, but I have to say that was pretty much one of the most profound things to ever stay in my memory, and I dearly treasure it, because it reminds me, of what my faith means to me, and what it means to God.

Notice I didn’t say, what it means to my best friend, or my mom, or my cat lol.

I have struggled with this for so many years; growing up Catholic it was a given to happen, you have that traditional religious extreme where you have to ” do” all these things to prove your faith.

I still feel myself in the same mindset at times; just because it is something that was instilled in me.

Anyway, you can’t use a left-over shield from someonelse.
Your faith has to be genuine, otherwise no glory goes to God, but you.
Believe me, you don’t want that to happen.

Psalm 18:2

2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.
He is my shield and the horn [a] of my salvation, my stronghold.

Psalm 140:7

O Sovereign LORD, my strong deliverer,
who shields my head in the day of battle.

I think we can understand what, ” shields my head in the day of battle” means.

I am not quite sure if that is exactly what King David was getting at here, but think about it for a moment; He messed up plenty when it came to keeping that straight and narrow with God.
Sleeping with Urriah’s wife probably wasn’t the best idea.
And her getting pregnant probably was something God had happen to be a big reminder of how big he messed up looking back years from then.

But can you maybe picture him writing this out remembering that?
I think if we could hear his thoughts he would have added, ” And thank you Lord for showing me my weakness.”

What kind of things has God ” shielded” your head from?

Isn’t it interesting how we have to have it happen to us, to usually be shielded from it? Does that make sense to you?

Its like how you watch a baby learn.

Ever have a child constantly go under the coffee table, and you tell them each time,
” You will get hurt if you do that.”

and what usually finally has to happen for them to understand what you mean.
They hit their head.

God knows we are just like that, its goign to go in one ear and out the other; I’d like to know where we got our stubborn streak from.

I think something was inside that apple! lol.

The way we think will be structured by God later on; when we are ready.

John 4: 48

“Unless you people see miraculous signs and wonders,”
Jesus told him, “you will never believe.”

Somewhere along the line we became, ” A see it to believe it” people.

So in order for us to heed what God wants us to do, he just lets us walk under the table of our own temptations of life.

Can you picture Him saying this to you,

” If you_____that, you’ll get hurt.

Our thoughts will be His, when He know we are ready.

We have to know how to wear the shield before we use it right?

So I have decided; as we are going through a message series at church on Eph 6:11, I am going to do my own here, focusing on the shield itself:)

How I love when God inspires me to write:)

He just rocks!

Be Blessed:)
