LSOF: Emotional Idolatry

For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise;
he is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the nations are idols,
but the LORD made the heavens.
-(1 Chronicles 16:25-26)

I remember quite a few years ago I walked into my Pastor’s office. I sat down and he asked me how I was doing. I sighed and said I was frustrated by so much going on in my life. I was also frustrated, because God was being silent.
So my Pastor took a piece of paper and drew a huge circle.
” Write down all of your frustrations inside this circle, everything and anything you can think of.”
I am pretty sure I filled the entire circle.
He then wrote the name of ” Jesus,” on the outside of the circle.
I remember looking at him with a confused look.
He said to me, ” This circle represents your mind, and everything you are dealing with right now, and here is Jesus on the outside of it all…the reason being that your mind is too clouded to let Him in. How can Jesus help you if you are allowing other things to be your focus?”

My friends, something that lesson taught me and I’ve carried with me since then is, not ALL idols are PEOPLE.
Something that this lesson has taught me is we can very easily become submissive to the WRONG thing! And NEVER
realize it until we are face down on the ground.

” Our faith will never be stronger, than the God we perceive.” -Beth Moore

Something sorta scary about that lesson also is, because we allow things that happen in our lives to affect us to the point we are at a loss as far as what to do…We are not believing God to be who HE IS!

How you feel…its an emotion…it will pass…emotions come and go.
Faith isn’t a feeling you get…it won’t pass from you unless you let your emotions become your god.
We lose faith, when we allow ourselves to “feel” like our faith is lost.

It’s interesting to me about how far we reach out to other things and religions sometimes, because we want one that WORKS for us. We want to feel good about ourselves, we want to believe that there is a god out there that
will be “good”, with what we are doing, or what we are “believing.”

That’s a very dangerous place to be.

One religion that I attended for a class spoke all about, “feeling”…and from what we just touched on let me tell you,
that with all those “frustrations” we have in our minds…if we don’t let God help us, and we “give up” on Him in doing so and decide to just sit around and feel sorry for ourselves…doesn’t that mean that our “emotions” have become our God. So then to attend another religion that is based on “feeling, perception” etc, wouldn’t that mean that we are literally teaching to be “submissive” to our own emotions. Emotions that change, come and go…that can make us “feel” awful one second and “happy” the next?

We are HUMAN, we are going to feel a “roller-coaster” of emotions daily.
Instead of letting emotions, CONTROL how we live our lives…how about we hand our lives over to God,
who DOESN’T change, Who DOESN’T come and go, and who WON’T make us “feel” awful one second and “happy” the next?

Don’t allow yourself to become a pawn on a chessboard, your life holds more meaning than that. GOD knows what your life is about from first page to the last…it’s time we BREAK down the walls of who we are, and let God in,

and let HIM BE GOD!
